Gift cards and bath salts and Snickers OH MY!
The end of school also means that the dance year is wrapping up. For a dance teacher, that means Christmas in June. I look forward to the end of the year for many reasons, but the reward of being blessed by my students with “teacher gifts” is always so encouraging.
I’ve polled some of my dance teacher pals, and among the cherished are gift cards to our favorite places (or iTunes), spa treatments, and candles. The item that took 1st place overall is a hand-written, thoughtful card from the heart. Bath & Body lotions, candy, and trinkets fall in the “thank you for the thought” category.
One of my most memorable gifts came from a dance mom who took the time to ask me if I enjoyed sushi. Of course, I gave a resounding YES, and with her gift card, my husband and I were able to share a special dinner together.
When I turn the idea of gift giving back to the ultimate Teacher, Jesus, I think He treasures when we take the time to find out what He loves or send Him words of adoration. He truly values us seeking after His desires for our lives and our prayers of praise far above any material sacrifice or act of habit without heart.
“I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings,” (Hosea 6:6 NLT).
